What makes S.T.O.P. different than any other child abuse organization out there that focuses on helping victims recover post abuse… Is that STOP focuses on preventing child sexual abuse before it ever occurs. Child sexual abuse often does not begin with the abusive act itself. It may begin much earlier, when an offender gradually builds trust, gains access to a child, tests boundaries, introduces secrecy, and normalizes inappropriate behavior. This process is called grooming. Recognizing and interrupting grooming behaviors and patterns early is the single most powerful tool we have to prevent abuse. So, what exactly is grooming? What does it look like - and how can we recognize the warning signs before the behavior escalates?

Sexual grooming often occurs gradually and is designed to build trust and secrecy long before any abuse happens, which is why early education and awareness are essential for prevention.

Who We Are

WHAT IS "SEXUAL GROOMING"?

Grooming is a process of targeting a child and engaging him or her for the purpose of sexual activity.

THE PURPOSE OF "SEXUAL GROOMING"⁉

Grooming is a deliberate process used by perpetrators to gain gradual access to a child, with the ultimate goal of engaging in sexual activity. It is designed to lower the child’s defenses, build trust, and reduce the chance of being caught—by the child, their family, or others. The perpetrator works to isolate the child, create emotional closeness, and ensure secrecy around the abuse.
